A young woman at the centre of an altercation with a lecturer at Fourah Bay College (FBC), has narrated how the whole problem started that led to an assault on her that left her bleeding.

21-year-old Nasu Ensah told Politico that a video on social media showing her being beaten with a shovel by lecturer Salmata Abiodun Ibrahim,Ph.D, at their Kortright residence on the FBC campus happened in the evening hours of Friday 28th July 2023.

Ensah narrated how she was urinating by her brother’s window only for her to be subjected to a torrid of invectives by Dr. Ibrahim whom she claimed accused her of defecating by the house, and then directing the verbal abuse at her mother and aunt, the latter being her guardian.

She also accused the lecturer’s daughter named Peta of throwing water at her to whch she retaliated. She added that as the insults and throwing of water lasted for some time, the lecturer and her daughter physically confronted her and beat her up using a shovel which led to lacerations on both the front and back of her head.

“I have been feeling serious pain since the incident happened. Just recently, I experienced a concussion and it had never happened to me before,” Ensah said.

When approached by Politico, Dr. Ibrahim admitted Ensa’s allegation of hitting her with a shovel but said it was not intentional, but out of anger. She said the incident happened during a fight between the victim and her daughter at the time she was using the shovel to clean her compound.

She said a frosty relationship developed between the two families after the theft of some spare parts in her quarter’s car garage whilst she was away in the United Kingdom but never proceeded with the matter even though her son is a police officer.

On Ensah’s allegation that she poured water on her from the top of her apartment, Dr. Ibrahim told Politico that she did not do it intentionally and apologized to her, but since there has been malice amongst the two families, the issue escalated. She said that when she saw Ensah squatting by the side of the house, she called her daughter to stop her from defecating there and got a harsh response from Ensah.

Dr. Ibrahim however expressed regret over what happened and to whosoever might have seen that video of her hitting the lady with the shovel that went viral on social media. She said she had involved the College Authorities to find a way to solve the matter amicably as a family and promised that such an act won’t be repeated.

According to the Officer in charge of the matter at Akon Police Station, IMATT, Inspector Salifu Kamara, it is a counter-matter where the two parties visited the police station at the same time. He said the investigations are ongoing and that they have invited them for further investigations before sending the case files to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
